Fishing Report for 7/29/2014

Closer to the marina in the Inlet the flounder fishing has been pretty strong with some nice keepers coming in.

Billy and LuAnn Harding of Smyrna, DE, caught these nice size keeper flounder while fishing in front of Bubble Gum Beach with live spot.

Mike Esham and Burt Campbell of Dagsboro, DE, caught their limit of flounder fishing with live spot in the Indian River Inlet using live spot. The heaviest fish weighed 4.3lbs.

Quinn Dunigan of Kensington, MD, caught this 6.1lb flounder with live minnows in the Indian River Inlet.

Fishing Report for 7/28/14

The good fishing continues both Inshore and Offshore here at the Indian River Marina.

Inshore still seeing a lot of nice flounder, sea trout, Bluefin Tunas and some beautiful gaffer mahi. The inlet and back bays has slowed down a little but flounder and sea trout are still coming back to the docks. Stop by our weigh station daily to see your favorite fish hitting the scales.

Offshore fishing is hot with lots of Mako and Hammerhead sharks, Yellowfin and Big Eye Tuna, White and Blue Marlin releases. There have even been a few Longfin Tunas in the mix.

Yesterday wrapped up another Local Fishing Tournament and we want to give you a report from two great days of fishing. The Wilmington Canyon was on fire with dozens of Big Eye Tunas, Longfin and Yellowfin Tunas and Swordfish. Hundreds of White Marlin Releases were reported in the Washington. Let’s hope this great fishing continues all summer!!!!

Fishing Report for 7/21/2014

Fishing continues to improve both Inshore and Offshore with great catches hitting our docks everyday!! Inshore we are still seeing a lot of Flounder being landed as well as Croaker and scattered Rockfish.

Offshore reports great fishing in the Hotdog and the Washington Canyon with nice Yellowfins, Bluefin and Bigeye Tunas, Mako’s, Mahi and White and Blue Marlin Releases!! That’s good news for all the anglers getting ready for the all the Tournaments coming up.

These 75.4lb and 51.5lb blue fin tuna were caught by Dan Bush and Mike Hausekeeper while chunking and trolling ballyhoos at the Hambone.

This 3.2lb trigger fish was caught on the Capt. Bob II by Chad Jackson of Wilmington, DE. Capt. Bert Adams reported he was using clams and fishing out at the Clammer.

Michael Leishman of Bel Air, MD, caught this 7.1lb and 26 3/4 inch flounder using live minnows and squid while fishing in front of the Coast Guard station.

Chris Wines of Silversprings, MD, caught this 4.7lb 24 inch flounder off the rocks in the Indian River Inlet using live minnows.

Alex Windsor of Hartford County, MD, caught this 7.2lb and 25 1/2 inch flounder while fishing with Gulp baits in the Indian River Inlet.

Its finally time this Saturday July 26 for the Annual Seafood & Arts Festival here on the docks from 10am-6pm. Come by land or Sea there is free parking and docking for visitors and admission is also free for all. So come join us for this fun family event!!

Fishing Report for 7/18/14

Capt. John Doetzer of the “Blue Runner” Keith Hahn of Ellicott City, MD, David Reeve of Stewartstown, PA, mate Capt. Nolan Doetzer and Colin Griffith of Westminster, MD caught this 235lb big eye tuna while trolling ballyhoo at the Washington Canyon.

While fishing out at the Hot Dog on whole mackerel Nate Underwood of Salisbury, DE and Chris Hertrich and angler Chad Lloyd of Seaford, DE, caught this 210lb mako shark.

Allan Fletcher and Jack Fleat of Annapolis, MD, caught these 11 mahi while fishing out at Massey’s Canyon while trolling ballyhoo.

Jimmy Bunting of Dagsboro, DE, Capt. Fred Winward, Dave Baer and Brandt Hart of Roxanna, DE caught this 172lb big eye tuna while trolling blue and white skirted ballyhoo out at Washington Canyon.

Fishing Report for 7/15/14

The Indian River Marina saw one of its busiest weekends ever this past week. Hammerheads Dockside had great crowds and Hook ’em & Cook ’em looked quite busy. Offshore there have been good reports of blue fin and big eyes. Inshore and in the Inlet there has been some good flounder fishing.

While trolling a spreader bar with green squids Jacob Williams and Kristin Wagner of Milford, DE caught these mahi weighing up to 25lbs and a 51lb blue fin tuna out at the Tea Cup.

Pete Standarowski of Newark, DE, Jamie King, Adam Marvin, Jimmy Carpenter, Jason King and Will Emmert of Milton, DE caught 60.6lb yellow fin tuna, 2 mahi and had a white marlin release all while trolling a blue and white Ilander at the Baltimore Canyon on the “Elizabeth Jane”.

Mate Dillin Bennet of Dagsboro, DE, Tom Schultz of Pasadena, MD, his brother Gene Schultz of Salisbury, MD, Tyler Long, Stephen Kiefer, Capt. Roger Meekins, Jeffrey Shollenberger and Gene Shollenberger all of Emmaus, PA were 2 shy of their flounder limit on the full day trip on the Capt. Bob II. These 22 flounder were caught on Gulp, cut bait and shiners and squid. Tyler had the biggest fish weighing in at 5lbs.

John Danricki, of Pottnets, DE, caught this 5.6lb and 25 1/2″ flounder while fishing out at the Old Grounds on a home made bucktail.

Scott Borino of the Indian River Marina landed his first flounder while fishing in the Inlet. This 16.5″ fish was caught on a live minnow and squid.

The IRM Seafood and Arts Festival on July 26th is fast approaching. Over 50 vendors are registered for this year’s event so please mark your calendar for a great day filled with nautical themed art, delicious seafood, games and crafts for children, and live music. Fishing Report for 7/12/14

It is shaping up to be a very busy weekend at Indina River Marina. The parking lots are filling up and the boat ramps are seeing heavy use as everyone is hitting the water to get in on the fishing action. Both headboats, Judy V and Capt. Bob are out with quite a few anglers today. IRM slip holders are out fishing as well so I am sure we will have lots of pictures to share soon.

Heath and Beck Harry of Pittsburgh, PA, fished with Capt. Dave Collins on the Capt. Ike II on an overnight trip to the Poorman’s. They trolled up one mako shark, three tuna and about a dozen mahi.

Nickie Gomes and Patrick Cronshaw of Newark, DE, took a trip out to the Tea Cup and trolled ballyhoo to catch this 46.2lb blue fin tuna and a 9.6lb mahi.

Fishing Report for 7/9/14

While the flounder bite has been lukewarm at best some anglers have managed to hook up.

Mary and Tyler Lewis of Germantown, MD, caught three keeper flounder while fishing on the head boat Judy V. with Capt. Eddie Wheedleton. They were fishing out at Site 10 using cut sea robin as bait.

This 9.4lb and 30 1/2″ flounder was caught by Derek Hall of Hummelstown, PA on “Hall ‘n Ass” with Scott Hall while fishing out at the Old Grounds with cut bait.

And Marty Downes of New York, caught a double header of a 10.5lb rock fish and a 6lb trout while using a Storm lure with a teaser in the Indian River Inlet.

Fishing Report for 7/8/2014

This new state record 56.9 lb. Mahi-mahi was caught 7/6/14 on the Elizabeth Jane pleasure boat out of Indian River Marina; official weight verified by DNREC officials at Hook Em and Cook Em.

Pictured in the photo from left to right — Greg Catts, Jason King, Jamie King, Butch Emmert, Will Emmert. Butch was the angler and the new record holder.

Fishing Report for 7/5/2014

Arthur is gone and in his place is some gorgeous weather. The wind is beginning to lay down and the Inlet is filling with boats. On the docks a fair number of slip holders are in the midst of prepping to go offshore tomorrow.

In the meantime, Capt. Charlie Horning of the Fish Whistle took his crew of Johnny Horning, of Laytonsville, MD, Kevin Dimetio of Dover, DE and Bill McMahon of Lewes, DE to the Washington Canyon and hooked up on these BIG big eye tuna. They weighed in at 182lbs 201lbs and 253lbs. These were caught on the troll with ballyhoo.

Susan Byrd of Pike Creek, DE, caught this 2.8lb and 26″ flounder while fishing in the Indian River Inlet using live minnows.

Fishing Report for 7/4/2014

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!! GO AWAY ARTHUR!!!!!!

We are weathering the storm well at IRM. Heavy rain and winds as of 9:00am should all clear out of here late afternoon early evening.

The 1st Annual Kid’s Catch-All was a huge success with 75 kids entered. You can catch a glimpse of all the kids and their catches on a nice spread in the Coastal Fishermen. We have plenty in the Lobby of the Marina Office. Here are some pics from the past week of fishing.

One of our Charter’s Galeforce with Captain Aaron Hurd aboard and crew landed 14 Keeper Flounder. Nice catch!!
